IPL 2025: Kevin Pietersen Joins Delhi Capitals as Mentor

The ex-England skipper joins DC as a mentor, reuniting with his former franchise after his 2016 retirement.

The 44-year-old cricketer and former England Captain Kevin Pietersen has officially joined the Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season. Joining in, he will now add his contribution to the mentorship squad, along with Hemang Badani (head coach), Matthew Mott (assistant coach), Munaf Patel (bowling coach), and Venugopal Rao (director of cricket) in the DC backroom.

Having maintained a close relationship for a long period of time with Kiran Kumar Grandhi, chairman of GMR, the co-owners of the DC franchise. Kevin finally joined him on this new journey for IPL 2025. Welcoming Pietersen, Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi Expressed,

“KP has been a Delhi boy. His experience and passion will be invaluable.” Co-owner Parth Jindal added, “KP was one of the best modern-day batters. His knowledge will help our players achieve success.”

Talking about this new journey, the former captain expressed his excitement and shared joy, saying,

“I have incredible memories with this franchise. Even as a broadcaster, I have always supported this team. I have a great relationship with the owners and the Delhi Capitals fans. When this opportunity came up, it was an easy YES for me.”

A veteran of 200 T20s with 5,695 runs, Pietersen appeared in 36 IPL matches, scoring 1001 runs across his stints with the Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Pune franchise. 

Having played for the franchise back in the 2014 IPL, Kevin also played for Royal Challenger Bengaluru in 2009. But this is the first time he is making a turn into his IPL Career taking it to the Coaching. He is making a comeback to the IPL season after his retirement in 2016 but now is coming as a Mentor.

IPL 2025: A Future to Look Ahead for DC

With Kevin Pietersen joining the team, Delhi Capitals are raising their hopes for this season. As per the past records, they have only reached the finals just once. They will begin their quest for a maiden IPL title with a clash against their former skipper Rishabh Pant’s new team, Lucknow SuperGiants, on March 24.
