The most awaited season for all cricketing fans kicks off on 22 March 2025 and preparations around the season are on peak. All squads are decked up for the grand league with their key players but Mumbai Indians face the challenge of filling in the void of Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit who is suffering from a lower back injury is on rest and hasn’t been given a green flag to play in the Beginning matches for the Mumbai Team. Talking about Bumrah’s void in the pre-season conference, Coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that the bowler hasn’t recovered completely and will likely miss the first three matches of the IPL 2025 on Mumbai Indians side.

Bumrah got injured while playing a test match against Australia in the BGT 2024-25 during the fifth match at Sydney Cricket Ground and then he didn’t bowl the next second innings. Following it he also missed the Champions Trophy and has been with the medical team to get fit and return back to the Mumbai Indians in IPL.

Jayawardene confirms Bumrah to miss IPL 2025

At the pre-season conference, the skipper and Coach asked how they were planning on covering the gap against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk with Bumrah set to miss the initial matches for the team. In reply to this, the coach said,

Jasprit Bumrah is with the NCA (National Cricket Academy). He just started the progress. We will wait for feedback. Everything is going well so far. It is a day-to-day process. We hope he can join the team at the earliest. Obviously not having him is a challenge, he is one of the best bowlers in the world. We will have to find ways and it is about opportunities for someone else. We need to find an element early in the season and see what works” said Jayawardene

Mumbai Indians is set to start the campaign with their arch rivals and most successful IPL team Chennai Super Kings on the other side on March 23 at the Chepauk stadium. With Bumrah slated to miss the few beginner matches of the 2025 Season, it is going to be a road full of challenging paths, until he recovers and joins back to give the team the support needed.
