Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa’s Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far.

Brevis was previously part of the Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 crore.

Known as “Baby AB,” Dewald Brevis has been outstanding in the recently concluded SA20 2025, where he scored 291 runs in 12 matches with an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 184.17.

The 21-year-old can bat at the top order as well as in the middle. This is a great replacement for CSK, as they are struggling with their top order to fire this season. He can open for the team along with Rachin Rachin to give an aggressive start to the team.

Chennai Super Kings are currently sitting at the bottom of the table with just two wins in seven matches. The team will face the Mumbai Indians in their next match, and all matches from here are very important for the team with respect to playoff qualification.

Dewald Brevis has represented the Mumbai Indians in 2022 and 2024 for a total of 10 matches, where he scored 230 runs with an average of 23.00 and a strike rate of 133.72. He will be a key player for CSK against MI in their next match, which is set to be played on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
