Punjab Kings, after a four-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings, have been fined for a breach of the IPL code of conduct. Playing at the Chepauk on Wednesday, Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over rate during the match. The Iyer-led team was penalized during the match as they were too slow in completing their overs. As a result of this, the team was only allowed to place four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in place of the usual five.
“Shreyas Iyer, Captain, Punjab Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh,” BCCI said in a release.
Despite the fine and slow over rate, PBKS managed to win the match by four wickets. Batting first, Chennai Posted a target 191 on the board. Coming on the chase, Punjab and co managed to win the match with the key contribution form Captain Shreyas Iyer and Yuzevendra Chahal, where one kept hitting runs on the field and other took the key wickets of the Chennai side in the CSK innings.
Following this win, Punjab has now shifted to the second spot on the points table with a total of 13 points. Whereas on the other side, Chennai find themselves at the bottom with just four points. As a result of this loss, Chennai Super Kings became the first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2025. PBKS will now play Lucknow Super Giants on May 4 at the Mullanpur stadium. Meanwhile, CSK will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
