Ajinkya Rahane

After losing the season’s opener clash, Ajinkya Rahane made an indirect request about a possible change in pitching conditions at Eden Gardens. KKR were hammered at their home venue by RCB in their IPL opener match on March 22 losing it by 7 wickets. Talking to reporters, the Captain requested indirectly saying, “We would love to see some spin on this wicket but again, no complaints.” However, the pitch curator at Eden Gardens refused bluntly and made it clear to make no changes.

“We would love to see spin”: Ajinkya indirect Plea

After the match, Rahane felt that the match could’ve gone more in his team’s favour if it had aided the spinners, as the team’s spinners failed to make any impact on the field against RCB.

“We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one-and-a-half days. Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl in any kind of wicket and I am sure they are confident as well,” Rahane said in the post-match press conference.

Replying to Rahane’s plea, the Ground curator Sujan Mukherjee countered the idea and denied any changes to the field, strongly criticizing the idea of changing any pitch.

“As long as I’m here, Eden Gardens’ pitch will not change. As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge (as Eden curator), the pitches here have been like this. It was like this in the past. Things haven’t changed now, and it will not be altered in the future,” Mukherjee told RevSport.

RCB spinners took four wickets, what did KKR spinners do? Sujan Mukherjee

Having an upper hand in the match, KKR could not bring an impressive innings and failed to make any impact at their home ground pitch against RCB. Answering to Rahane’s plea, Mukherjee pointed out that RCB spinners flourished on the same pitch, but what did KKR spinners do?

“Their (RCB) spinners took four wickets between them,” he said. “What did the KKR spinners do? Krunal Pandya got three wickets. Suyash Sharma turned the ball to castle Andre Russell,” Sujan Mukherjee.

Playing at Eden’s, RCB’s bowling attack made an impact with Suyash and Krunal Pandya’s innings, who took four wickets in the match. However, KKR players tried but couldn’t make any impact.
