The much anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders is underway at the Wankhede Stadium and coming for the match, MI was under pressure due to its sluggish start of the season but soon the match folded the Mumbai Bowlers did the MI things at the stadium and brought back to back deliveries before sending the top batting order of the defending champions back to pavilion.
IPL 2025 MI vs KKR: A nightmare powerplay start for KKR
Winning the toss, MI opted to field first, allowing the KKR to come on the batting end. After losing the toss, KKR’s innings got off to a disastrous start. The purple army lost one of their golden batsmen for a duck against Trent Boult’s swing bowling. Dismissing Narine for a duck in the very first over for the fourth delivery, Boult uprooted Narine’s stumps. Soon after Narine’s dismissal, Quinton de Kock followed suit, miscuing the shot for Deepak Chahar’s delivery, falling for just 1 run.
Following the early dismissal of Narine and de Kock, Ajinkya entered the field and tried to rebuild, playing some of the best batting tricks he had. But his stay at the field was short-lived as Ashwini Kumar, the debutant for MI IPL 2025 season, dismissed him on his very first delivery. Facing Ashwini’s delivery, Rahane attempted a shot at deep backward point but was held by Tilak Verma, sending KKR to further distress at 15/3. After Ajinkya’s dismissal, Venkatesh Iyer followed his way to the pavilion over Deepak Chahar, a sharp bouncer for just 3 off 9 deliveries.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi, however, showed resilience and played a couple of good boundaries and even a stunning six off Ashwini Kumar’s bowling, bringing on his expertise on the ground. He was the only player who stayed on the ground more than anyone in the powerplay, pushing the score past 30, but his stay couldn’t last for long and he was soon dismissed by Hardik Pandya.
MI bowlers bring the attack, keep KKR in check
Mumbai Indians bowlers did a fantastic job not allowing the purple squad to make an impact in the powerplay. By the end of the powerplay, KKR were struggling at 36/3, with a tough challenge ahead. Now, the pressure is on Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh to rebuild the innings and push the scoring rate. At 41/4 Mumbai bowlers stopped the Riders riding on the purple wave at Wankhede and also making a record for the lowest powerplay score in the IPL season so far.
