Delhi Capitals Name Faf Du Plessis as Axar Patel’s Deputy for IPL 2025

Faf Du Plessis is announced as the vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals. He will now perform the duties of Deputy alongside Delhi Capitals Captain Axar Patel for the IPL 2025.

Faf Du Plessis joining the DC brings strong leadership experience from his Previous IPL stint with RCB, where he captained the team for three consecutive seasons till 2024. Ahead of the mega auction, the South African Batter was released by the RCB franchise and Delhi Capitals bought the star for the IPL 2025 in the mega auction that happened the previous year.

Faf Du Plessis former RCB Captain and Proteas star has been announced as the new Vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals Franchise for the IPL 2025. Delhi Capitals named him the deputy of Axar Patel and made the official announcement on their Twitter handle. Captioning it as, “Pick Up your phones, it’s your vice-captain calling”

In a video released by DC on Monday, 17 March, Du Plessis can be seen talking over a call expressing his joy and confirming the news of his appointment saying, “Yes That’s true, I am Vice Captain of DC and I am very excited”. He went on expressing himself and called Arun Jaitley Stadium his home.

Delhi capitals have assigned him as deputy chair of Axar Patel, who was announced as captain of the team a few days ago. DC has never won an IPL title and this year the franchise is trying every statistical way possible on their behalf to lead the team to the title.

IPL Career and Stats

The 40-year proteas star joined the IPL Journey in the year 2012 when he was picked by CSK. He continued to be part of the CSK till 2021 and then further went to RCB in 2022. With RCB the proteas star led the Red Army as a captain filling in the shoes of Virat Kohli who stepped down as a captain for the RCB the same year. But ahead of the IPL Mega Auction, he was released by RCB and was then subsequently acquired by DC for a sum of  INR 2 crore.

He has played a total of 145 matches in the IPL and has accumulated 4571 runs with an average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.37.
