Indian women, facing Sri Lanka Women at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday, emerged as the series winner and defeated Sri Lanka women by 97 runs. Winning the toss, the dominant Indian Women have opted to bat first, inviting the home team to bowl and field.
Taking on the field, India women started to build the momentum and built a 70-run partnership for the first wicket. Later on, Smriti Mandhana continued to build the innings and put up an individual score of 116 runs, and later India posted a total of 342 with contributions from Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jemimah Rodrigues. India came into the tournament as the hot favourites and completed a resounding victory in the final. The result was never in doubt once they amassed 342 with the bat.
Sri Lanka needed a collaborative team effort with one player to score big like Smriti for the Indian team. However, they did get a good start as their top score was only 51, which wasn’t enough for this mammoth target. Sneh Rana was India’s top bowler and took 4 wickets today, along with Amanjot Kuar, who took another 3 wickets of the Lankan side. The hosts did punch above their weight right through the tournament, but they were distinctively second best on the big day.
