After winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, captain Rohit Sharma clarified to fans in the post-match press conference that he is not retiring from ODIs. The 37-year-old led India to its third Champions Trophy and overall 7th ICC title with his outstanding innings of 76 runs off 83 balls in the final against New Zealand.

“I am not going to retire,” Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma dismissed the rumors of his retirement after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the post-match press conference, saying, “Koi future ka plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (no future plan, whatever is happening will continue). I’m not going to retire from this format.”

On his approach in the batting since the 2023 CWC, Rohit said, “I scored heavily in the 2019 World Cup, but maza nahi aya… the team didn’t win. When the team wins and you make a contribution, it gives satisfaction. I am clear in my mind how I want to bat, and that is what I am trying to do.”

Rohit Sharma has been amazing as a captain and player in this tournament. As a captain, he led his team to the title without losing a single match and scored 180 runs in 5 matches with a strike rate of 100.00, including a match-winning inning of 76 runs in the final.

India vs New Zealand Final Summary

While batting first, New Zealand has set up a total of 251 thanks to Daryl Mitchell’s fighting 63 and Michael Bracewell’s attacking 53 runs off 40 balls. As expected, the Indian spinner put on a show in the finals, restricting Kiwis to a low total. Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja got the wicket of Tom Latham.

Chasing the 252 total, Captain Rohit Sharma gave a flying start to India along with Vice Captain Shubman Gill. Both built an amazing opening partnership of over 100 runs. However, New Zealand fought hard by taking India’s 3 wickets under 17 runs after the opening partnership, but thanks to crucial knocks from Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel and the finishing touches of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, India won the Champions Trophy after 12 years.
