The Pakistan Super League or HBL PSL is an annual men’s 20-20 format Cricket league. The league has successfully hosted a total of 9 seasons so far and now is coming up for the 10th edition. Organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board, this league has grown into a major cricketing sport in the country.
The tournament is played in double round robin and playoff format. A total of six teams participate in the league. Islamabad United holds the record for being the most successful franchise, winning the championship three times, including the latest 2024 edition.
With the upcoming 2025 edition schedule being announced, here is the PSL History and PSL League Winner List from its inception in 2016.

2016 PSL Winners: Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United played the final of the tournament for the inaugural season. Batting first the Gladiators posted a score of 174/7 with a total of runs of Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmed Shehzad.
Chasing the target, Islamabad United won the match in just 18.4 overs, with a score of 73 from Dwayne Smith and Brad Haddin’s 61.
2017 PSL Winners: Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar’s Zalmi were announced winners for the second season. They started the innings and batted first, posting a total of 148/6 on the scoreboard. After the first innings, the Quetta Gladiators began their chase, but bowlers quickly dismissed them, limiting the team to just 90 runs. Daren Sammy earned the player of the match award.
2018 PSL Winners: Islamabad United
Winning the third season in their favor, Islamabad United won by 3 wickets with 19 balls remaining in the final match of the league. The final of the tournament took place on the grounds of Karachi between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.
Batting first, the Zalmi posted a total of 148/9 with contributions from Chris Jordan, Liam Dawson, Andre fletcher, and Wahab Riaz. While coming on the chase, the United sealed victory in just 16.5 overs with explosive batting from Luke Ronchi and Sahibzada Farhan.
2019 PSL Winners: Quetta Gladiators
Playing the final match on the Karachi Ground, Peshawar Zalmi fought against Quetta Gladiators. The match was won by the Gladiators with a difference of 8 wickets with 13 balls remaining.
Batting first, the Peshawar team posted a score of 138/8, and the Gladiators followed them on the chasing end, winning the title in their favor by 8 wickets. Peshawar Zalmi returned home with a runner-up trophy for the third time.
2020 PSL Winners: Karachi Kings
Lahore Qalandars entered the final for the first time in PSL History. Playing in the final, Karachi Kings lifted the trophy with a win of 5 Wickets.
Playing first, Lahore Qalandars posted a score of 134/7, and coming on the chase from the Karachi Kings, stars made a total of 135, registering their first win in the PSL League winner history. Officials awarded Babar Azam the Player of the Match award for his contribution to batting and fielding.
2021 PSL Winners: Multan Sultans
Multan Sultans faced Peshawar Zalmi in the final for the 2021 season. The final was played on the grounds of Abu Dhabi. Multan Sultan playing first the Multan Sultans posted a score of 206 with the support of shoaib Maqsood and Rilee Rossouw fifties. On the chasing side, Zalmi managed only 159 runs, allowing the Sultans to secure the title with a 47-run victory.
2022 PSL Winners: Lahore Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars are among the most successful teams in PSL History. The team has registered a total of three wins in the 9 editions till now. In the final against last year’s defending champions Multan Sultans, Qalandars started strong and posted a score of 180 for 5 wickets. But on the chasing end, the sultans fell short and ended the chase at a score of just 138 runs.
2023 PSL Winners: Lahore Qalandars
The next season, the 2023 season, was also a winning season for the Qalandars; this time, the champions defended their title against the same Multan Sultans, and the Leaderboard announced the 2023 PSL winners to Lahore Qalandars. It was that the history repeated itself for one more time, and Lahore won the final with just 1 run in their favor.
2024 PSL Winners: Islamabad United
In the last edition, the tournament had a new winner. Islamabad United emerged victorious against the Multan Sultans in the final. Winning here made Islamabad United the most successful team and Multans as the team with the most number of runner-ups in their name.
Finishing third in the standings with 11 points from 10 matches, United entered the playoffs and later entered into the finale, beating the Quetta Gladiators. Playing in the final, they won the 2024 season with 2 wickets.
