In a recent incident, Batting coach Michael Hussey shared about an incident where our so famous Captain Cool lost his temper and was fuming with anger. This is one of the rarest events to occur,  and it is almost shocking to see Dhoni angry moments on and off the field. Michael Hussey, talking about the incident, shared that, during the times of IPL 2018. When the former CSK player returned to the franchise as a batting coach, the team was about to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1. And that was the time when Dhoni got angry at him after being dismissed by Rashid Khan.

Talking more about the incident, Hussey revealed on podcast that  “The night before the big game, the analyst sends me through this split screen of Rashid Khan. And it’s basically when he bowls has wrong’uns, he runs in his fingers together,r and when he bowls his leggy, his fingers are apart. ‘Ooh, this is good’. But this is the night before the game, though, so I’m sitting on thinking, do I send this out to the batters, or do I not? I sat looking at it for an hour because you don’t want to put too much stuff guys’ head the night before the game.” 

Following this incident, the next day Dhoni got bowled by Rashid Khan and, entering the dressing room, he fumed at Hussey. “We were like four down for nothing the next day, and Dhoni’s in with Faf at the other. Rashid Khan comes in first ball and bowls the wrong ’ un. Dhoni goes for the cover drive, hitting against the spin, and is bowled. You got to understand that this guy is a mega star, like bigger than god. He comes in and looks me straight in the eye and he goes, ‘I’ll bat my own f***ing way, thanks’ and sits down next to me. Oh, his Coaching career is done! I sat for the rest of the game like a stunned mullet.”

Reflecting upon his coaching journey and his experience with Dhoni and CSK in a podcast with Backchat. Michael revealed that, “To be able to work with MS Dhoni, for example, the greatest finisher in the history of the game in my mind… I sort of used to pinch myself,” but this was completely opposite of their first exchange. 

In their first instance, during Qualifier 1 of IPL 2018, he had Dhoni fuming at him, saying he would bat his own f***ing way. The team won the qualifier and then later on lifted the title as well. But with the fuming incident, Dhoni left Hussey thinking his coaching career was done for good.

Clearing the air about the incident later and on their relationship, Hussey said, “Dhoni’s a great guy and he comes up after the game and said, ‘The information was great, but I needed more time and a couple of net sessions to process it’”. Further, it was a gruelling start to his coaching career, but thankfully, Dhoni “stuck with me” as the Aussie’s coaching association with the franchise extends to a seventh edition this year.
