Mumbai Indians are set to face the Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2 match of the ongoing IPL Playoffs for the 2025 season on Sunday. After defeating the Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator match, Mumbai had made it to the Qualifier 2, where they will now go in a head-to-head battle with league stage table topper Punjab Kings. But before the match, the battle starts, fitness concerns loom over the Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit star pacer Deepak Chahar, who suffered a hamstring injury in MI’s last league stage match.
Mumbai is on the verge of creating history, and so are the Punjab Kings, where Mumbai is looking for its sixth title. Punjab is eyeing its first title in IPL History. So ahead of this decider match, both teams would want their performing stars of the season in the playing XI to bring out their best shot, and with this main question arises over the availability of MI’s Deepak Chahar, who missed their do-or-die match against Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator.
Will Deepak Chahar be playing Qualifier 2 vs PBKS?
A report by ESPN suggests that Mumbai Indians star pacer Chahar’s injury is a major concern for them, and they are hoping that he recovers in time. Although Deepak was part of the Saturday training session, the session felt more like a fitness check than a regular warm-up session.
Chahar had heavy padding on both sides of his left knee, showing that the team is being extra careful with him. He did some side steps with resistance bands, light jogging, and later took some short fast runs. After this session, he was seen moving nicely without any sign of pain, which seems to give hope to his team, but all would depend on how he feels before the game. As Ahmedabad isn’t a great place for players with leg or hamstring problems.
Notably, Chahar missed MI’s last match, the Eliminator, due to a hamstring injury he sustained in their final league game against PBK. He had to leave the field after just one over, although he came back to bowl two more overs. Since then, he’s been under observation. Now, it all depends on Pacer’s recovery and how he feels, as that will help decide if he can play or not.
