Munaf Patel, bowling coach of Delhi Capitals, has been fined 25% of his match fees and has also been awarded one demerit point for breaching the code of conduct during a match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

The exact reason behind the fine has not been revealed, but it is likely due to the heated argument between the coach and the fourth umpire, after being denied to convey a message to DC skipper Axar Patel during DC’s bowling.

“Munaf Patel admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 – which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the IPL said in a statement on Thursday. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.

The incident unfolded at the time of Delhi’s bowling, when the fourth umpire denied a reserve player to enter the field to convey a message to Axar Patel. After being denied, the coach can be seen having a heated argument with the umpire while tying up his laces at the boundary line. The video of the incident went viral and can be assumed as the cause for the match fine and penalty.

Munaf Patel was part of the winning 2011 World Cup Squad besides Dhoni and was appointed as the Delhi Capitals in November last year, replacing James Hopes.
