Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Chennai Super Kings by 55 runs in the 8th match of the IPL 2025, thanks to amazing performances from Rajat Patidar and the bowlers’ combined effort. This is the first time since 2008 that RCB has defeated CSK at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk.

With a great batting display from captain Rajat Patidar and finishing touches by Tim David, RCB posted a total of 196 in 20 overs. In the second innings, RCB bowlers dominated, taking early wickets and not allowing CSK to recover, eventually winning the match by 50 runs.

IPL 2025 CSK vs RCB Highlights

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to bowl first in the highly anticipated match against RCB at Chepauk. RCB named Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the playing XI, and Pathirana replaces Ellis in the CSK XI.

Phil Salt and Virat Kohli come out to open for RCB, and they continue the first match momentum with a strong start. However, in the fifth over, Noor Ahmad’s great ball and MS Dhoni’s stumping send Phil Salt to the pavilion after scoring 32 runs off 16 balls. Then, Devdutt Padikkal joins Virat in the middle; he batted with a strong intent and scored 27 runs off 14 balls before getting out to Ravichandran Ashwin.

On the other hand, Virat struggled to find the momentum, and he also lost his wicket on 31 runs off 30 balls to Noor. However, Rajat Patidar held the one end, scoring with a good scoring rate. He scored 51 runs off just 32 balls on the spin-friendly surface to bring RCB’s total to 196 in 20 overs.

While chasing a total of 196, CSK lost early wickets of Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda, and Sam Curran. This puts a lot of pressure on Rachin Ravindra, who continues to play well, but eventually, pressure gets him on 41 runs off 31 balls. In the same over, Shivam Dube got out to Yash Yadav and almost set the match for RCB. In the end, MS Dhoni hit some boundaries, but it was too late, and RCB won the match by 50 runs. Josh Hazelwood took 3 wickets, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone took 2 each.
