The intense battle between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants is underway at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Winning the toss, Ajinkya opted to field first and asked LSG to bat first. Batting first Lucknow posted a score of 238 on board and put the team in a commanding position. Chasing the target, Kolkata opened with fiery intent and started with explosive batting, scoring 90 with 1 wicket down.

Digvesh Rathi, the star bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants, came to attack and dismissed Sunil Narine, who was building the attack with Skipper Ajinkya Rahane in the KKR innings. Giving the much-needed breakthrough to LSG, Rathi once again caught the limelight with his celebration style after taking the wicket of Sunil.

IPL Rules Breach: Penalties for Digvesh Rathi

Digvesh Rathi has been fined twice for his notebook celebration and has been found guilty of the IPL Code of Conduct breach. Due to Rathi’s ‘receipt’ celebration, the spinner has been punished in back-to-back Indian Premier League games against the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. And after today’s celebration, commentator Ambati Rayudu said, “By the time IPL will get over, I am not sure if Digvesh will have any money left from IPL salary” expressing concerns over the continuous controversial celebration from the player

This season has been great for player in terms of wickets but the celebration has taken a toll on him awarding him back-to-back fines and demerit points.  Digvesh Rathi has already received two fines for violating the Level 1 code of conduct. In addition to receiving three demerit points, he was fined 50% of his match fees. If he continues with controversial celebrations like this it won’t be long, that he would face a match suspension.

Watch here: A mature Notebook Celebration

Digvesh made headlines with his celebration once again, he today celebrated the controversial notebook celebration in a more mature way. After dismissing Sunil Narine in the 7th over of KKRs innings, Rathi bowled a deceptive googly that lured Narine into a mistimed big shot. Narine couldn’t get the power he needed and got caught off a catch to Aiden Markram.

Following the dismissal, Rathi celebrated the wicket in more mature form and bent down and theatrically signed the grass, A moment that feels like signing your name with pride — calm, respectful, and full of meaning rather than signing it as a taunt. Although today’s celebration wasn’t controversial, the decision for penalty remains with Umpires and on field referees. Rathi needs to be cautious in the forthcoming games, as the demerit points remain on record for 36 months.
