Virat Kohli, India’s star batter, announced his retirement from Test Cricket on Monday, May 12. Kohli took to his Instagram and shared the news of his retirement with his fans. His decision came right after a week when Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the format. Kohli was going through a rough patch in the game’s longest format over the last few years. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia was not a happy time for him, as he struggled to make an impact. However, he managed to score a blistering century in Perth, but he couldn’t carry that run of form on to the next four matches, resulting in a humiliating loss for the team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the ICC have acknowledged his retirement, and the BCCI expressed its heartfelt gratitude for King Kohli on their “X” Handle. “Illustrious legacy, Inspiring intensity, Incredible icon. The former Indian captain gave it all to Test Cricket. Thank you for the memories in whites, Virat Kohli,” BCCI captioned the post on social media in which Virat can be heart explaining the importance of Test cricket in his career.

“The idea was to play test cricket for India. And that was always the goal. This is the highest level. The thing that excited me about Test Cricket was The Challenge. The motivation is I want to play for as long as possible for my team,” Kohli said in the voiceover.
Kohli retired as India’s most successful Test captain, winning 40 matches, including 16 outside India. He also won every Test series at home under his leadership. With 123 Tests, 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, and 30 centuries to his name, his numbers speak volumes. But Kohli’s legacy goes far beyond statistics.
