Hong Kong has announced a 20-member squad for the Men’s Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28. Yasim Murtaza has been named captain of the team. Babar Hayat will serve as the vice-captain. This will be Murtaza’s first major assignment as Captain. The team will be supported by experienced players, including Anshuman Rath, Nizakat Khan, Babar Hayat, Mohammad Aizaz Khan, and Ehsan Khan.
The squad will depart for a preparation camp in the UAE on August 24. During the camp, the team will play practice matches and undergo intensive training sessions. The preparation camp is aimed at helping players adjust to the local weather and pitch conditions. Head coach Kaushal Silva said the wider squad will allow him to assess each player and improve team cohesion. Silva added that the team is not just participating in the tournament, but is aiming to compete and win matches.
The squad includes a mix of experienced players and young talent. This combination is intended to provide balance and support for Hong Kong in the tournament. Players like Kinchit Shah, who will return to the squad after more than two years, will aim to add depth to the batting lineup. The bowling unit and fielding players are expected to play an important role in taking wickets and saving runs.
Asia Cup Preparation and Team Strategy
The team’s training will focus on skill development, tactical awareness, and team communication. The coaching staff will guide players in improving their performance under various match situations. The preparation matches and under-lights practice sessions are planned to give a real-match experience. Hong Kong qualified for the Asia Cup through the 2024 ACC Premier Cup by defeating Nepal in the third-place playoff. This will be Hong Kong’s fifth appearance in the Asia Cup, having previously played in 2004, 2008, 2018, and 2022.
Hong Kong is part of Group B in the tournament. Their first match will be against Afghanistan on September 9. They will also play against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the group stage. The team aims to perform well in the tournament and make a strong impression on the international stage.
