India Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 Squad Announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has officially announced the 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. Set to be held in India later this year, the team is aiming to build on its strong performances in recent series, including wins against England and a tri-series victory involving South Africa and Sri Lanka.

The selection Committee, headed by former spinner Neetu David, made some notable decisions, including leaving out star opener Shafali Verma, while bringing back pacer Renuka Singh Thakur. The announcement was made in Mumbai, with Captain HarmanpreetKaurr and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana present for the press conference.

India women’s ODI World Cup Leadership and Squad player: Harmanpreet Kaur to lead India 

Harmanpreet Kaur will once again lead the Indian side in the World Cup. With years of experience on the international stage, she has been a consistent performer in both batting and leadership. Harmanpreet has scored 876 runs in 22 World Cup Matches at an average of 51.52, including three centuries. Along with her, Smriti Mandhana will serve as the vice-captain of the team. Known for her stylish stroke play and consistent scoring ability, Mandhana has been in great form, particularly during recent ODI and T20I series.

Harmanpreet Kaur (Capt), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (WK), Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia (WK) and Sneh Rana

Shafali Verma, who returned to the national side after a seven-month gap, has been left out. According to Neetu David, Shafali remains in the system, and the selectors will continue monitoring her performances in the upcoming series. Renuka Singh Thakur, on the other hand, has made a return to India’s pace attack after proving her fitness and form.

India will open their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30 in Bengaluru, followed by a crucial clash against Pakistan in Colombo. Other matches include clashes against South Africa, Australia, England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. With a well-balanced squad of experienced leaders and emerging talents, India aims to make a strong push for the World Cup title on Home soil.
