Tim David smashes the fastest hundred by an Australian in T20I cricket history

Tim David made history on Friday, July 25, by scoring the fastest T20 International Century by an Australian. He reached his hundred in just 37 balls against the West Indies at Warner Park in St. Kitts during the Third T20I of the five-match series. His performance helped Australia chase down a big total of 215 and secure a six-wicket win, furthermore helping his team to lead the series 3-0. Even more interestingly, the bat David used in this match belonged to none other than Andre Russell, the West Indies T20 legend who had recently retired from International cricket.

Tim David’s maiden International Hundred: Turning point in the chase vs WI

Australia found themselves in early trouble while they started chasing the score on the board put by the Indies side, losing three wickets for just 61 runs. That’s when Tim David walked in and completely changed the course of the match. With his attacking intent and clean hitting, he took the pressure off his team and built a match-winning innings. He smashed 11 sixes and six fours, ending it with a strike rate of over 275. His brilliant performance came at a crucial moment, when Australia was under pressure and needed a big knock. He formed a partnership with Mitchell Owen, who remained unbeaten on 36 off 16 balls. Together they added 128 runs for the fifth wicket, which is now the highest fifth-wicket stand in Australia’s T20I history. Their partnership helped the team chase down the target with 23 balls to spare.

David’s innings did not just help the Aussies to win the match, but also set a new record. His 37-ball hundred is now the fastest T20I Century by an Australian, beating Aaron Finch’s 47-ball century from the past. He not only made his record, but it was also his maiden International, and what a perfect timing it was.

Third-Fastest T20I Century in Full-Member matches

David’s 37-ball century now ranks as the third-fastest T20I Hundred in matches involving full-member nations.

David Miller 35 Bangladesh Potchefstroom
Rohit Sharma 35 Sri Lanka Indore
Tim David 37 West Indies St Kitts
Abhishek Sharma 37 England Wankhede

Tim David’s incredible 37-ball century was more than a personal triumph; it was a symbolic moment for Australian cricket. Using the bat of Caribbean legend to break records on Caribbean soil, David not only secured a memorable win but wrote himself into the sport record book.

With this win, Australia sealed the series 3-0 with two games remaining. The team now has the luxury to test bench players and rest seniors, while the West Indies will be under pressure to find answers before the preparation for the T20 World Cup enters its final leg.
