BCCI on Monday night announced the revised schedule for the Indian Premier League and has laid out all whole details around the resumption of the IPL 2025. The league, which was suspended for a week after escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, is set to resume on May 17 with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The BCCI has rescheduled the IPL 2025 final to June 3, extending the tournament by over a week. This new timeline overlaps with international fixtures, giving Australian and South African players less than a week to prepare for the ICC World Test Championship final at Lord’s, starting June 11. Many overseas players who were part of the league had returned to their home countries, but with the tournament resuming later this week, franchises have asked them to come back for the remainder of the season. Amidst the situation, Cricket Australia has cleared its stance on the players and has set them free to take part in the T20 League, leaving the final decision on the players.
Cricket Australia will support players
Cricket Australia on Tuesday said it will support its players’ “individual decisions” on returning to the Indian Premier League (IPL), even as the resumption of the T20 tournament is set to clash with preparations for the World Test Championship (WTC Final). The board released a statement poster on Instagram and made it clear for the players.

“Following the announcement that the IPL will resume on Saturday, Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not.“Team management will work through the preparation implications for the World Test Championship Final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches. We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety,” a CA spokesperson added.
As per reports, Australian Cricketers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are unlikely to return for the remaining season, while some of the players are yet to make up their minds. With many overseas players having already returned home, bringing them back on short notice, especially amid ongoing concerns over safety and security, may not be ideal for the IPL’s resumption. Still, with the IPL resuming, teams that haven’t lost many players to schedule conflicts will try their best to have a better shot at reaching the Playoffs.
