Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded with the Padma Shri award from President Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, 28 April. The award ceremony was attended by many including the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ashwin was amongst the recipients who were awarded with Padam Shri which is one of the highest Civilian awards of India. The awards were announced on January 25, the eve of Republic Day.
Ashwin who has retired from International cricket was awarded with this award for his contribution in the cricket field. With 537 wickets in 106 test matches he has also accumulated 3503 runs, including a contribution from six centuries. He has played a major role in the 2013 Champions Trophy and 2011 ODI World Cup.

In the video shared by PTI, Ashwin can be seen all decked up in navy blue two piece suit. He walked and greeted all the honorable people and also greeted PM Modi and HM Amit Shah as he walked to receive the award from Draupadi Murmu.

Ashwin has retired from International Cricket and has played his last match in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and announced his retirement mid series at MCC Ground. Although he has retired from international cricket he continues to play in the domestic cricket leagues and is currently part of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025.
The Padma Awards are the most important honours given in India in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Given in the field of arts, science, business, medicine, and literature, these are awarded to people with great work and achievement in these fields. Besides Ashwin, P. R. Sreejesh was also honored with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution in the sports field. He was awarded for his amazing performance in the olympics.
