The defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, are taking on Punjab Kings in match 44 of the ongoing IPL at their own home venue at the Eden Gardens.

Priyansh-Prabhsimran Break Opening Record vs KKR

Winning the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer invited the home team to bowl first and chose to bat first. Opening for Punjab Kings, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran came on the field and then destroyed the KKR Bowling in the powerplay. The duo put together a score of 56 in the powerplay and later put together a partnership of 120 runs in 71 balls. 

Bringing on this knock, the duo made the highest ever for Punjab Kings, surpassing the earlier record of 116 between Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. The duo of Arya and Prabhsimran Singh also put together the highest opening stand by an uncapped duo in IPL.

This is the first time both PBKS openers survived the power play this season. And this is the fourth time KKR failed to pick a wicket inside powerplay which is the most by a team. However just as the partnership was flourishing Andre Russell bowled a short delivery to Priyansh Arya, who went for a pull shot but mistimed it. Giving Russell a much needed breakthrough for KKR.
