Ruturaj Gaikwad Replacement 2025

Chennai Super Kings have signed 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre as Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad replacement in the team. He will now join CSK and will be seen in the Mumbai Indians clash on April 20.

Chennai made the official announcement around Mhatre and confirmed that he would join the squad but wouldn’t be featured in the team’s next match against Lucknow Super Giants.

With Ruturaj being ruled out for the season due to an elbow Fracture, Mhatre is the new joinee who will rope in his place. Earlier than this, Mhatre was called up by CSK for a trial two weeks ago to gauge his batting in the nets, and after Gaikwad’s injury, they have decided to bring in the youngster.

“He will join the squad in Mumbai in a couple of days,” a source close to CSK management told Cricbuzz. The CSK team is currently in Lucknow for their seventh game, which will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on Monday night. Currently, CSK has one win and two points, having suffered five losses on the trot. They play the Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on April 20 at the Wankhede.

Ayush Mhatre’s Cricket Career

Mhatre started playing cricket at the age of 6, but it was at the age of 10 that he officially joined a club or school to pursue the sport professionally. He has played a total of nine first-class games for Mumbai and scored two centuries and a half-century. Mhatre has also represented Mumbai in seven List A games. He has amassed a total of 504 runs in the first-class matches and 458 runs in seven List A games.

CSK, the five-time champions, are struggling this season and currently sit at the bottom of the points table. With seasoned batters like Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, and Shivam Dube underperforming, the team is searching for stability amidst the ongoing chaos in the squad. With MS Dhoni returning to captaincy, CSK will now look to steady their innings and turn their campaign around.
