The last night’s match 16 between LSG and MI was filled with records, celebration, and a few mishaps. Hardik became the first IPL captain to take a fifer, Tilak Verma was sent back as retired out, and to top it off, Digvesh Rathi and the LSG Captain have been fined for another breach of the IPL code of conduct. Despite all the drama in a single match, LSG secured a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians, registering their second win of their IPL campaign.
Lucknow Super Giants’ new spin hero, Digvesh Rathi, has been fined once again for his controversial ‘Notebook Celebration.’ He was handed a fine amounting to 50% of the match fees after being found guilty of breaching the IPL code of conduct. Alongside him, the skipper Rishabh Pant was also fined Rs 12 lakh for the slow-over rate offense.
Not the first time, Rathi continues with a controversial celebration
Digvesh Rathi’s famous ‘Notebook Celebration’ has once again found him in the spotlight. This isn’t the first time that the celebration has sparked controversy. Rathi was previously fined for the same gesture during a match against PBKS when he dismissed Priyansh Arya, his former teammate, and celebrated the wicket by mimicking a ticking off in a notebook.
Continuing in the same vein, Digvesh celebrated again after dismissing Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir, who had been batting impressively. The incident unfolded in the 9th over when Rathi came to bowl for LSG, and he attacked Dhir for an outside off delivery. Dhir attempted a flick but missed, and the ball crashed into the stumps. Following the stable player dismissal, Rathi brought out his signature Notebook celebration once more, pretending to write in a notebook celebrating the wicket.
Releasing a statement on the IPL Code of Conduct Breach, IPL Said, “Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.”
“This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025”, the IPL Statement added.
