As the 2025 Indian Premier League is heating up,  a thriller showdown is set at the Eden Gardens between home team Kolkata Knight Riders and visitors Sunrisers Hyderabad. With early fall out of wickets for KKR in powerplay Venkatesh Iyer brought an explosive innings in the death overs of KKR innings.

Winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to bowl against the home team, Kolkata Knight Riders, calling them for batting. Opening the partnership for Kolkata, Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine came on the crease with Mohammed Shami on the bowler’s end for Sunrisers.

Venkatesh Iyer, explosive 4, 6, 4, 4 against Pat Cummins

Venkatesh Iyer entered the field in the 12th over after 97*3 after the dismissal of Skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Iyer, playing at number 5, played an outstanding innings scoring 60 runs from just 29 balls, with seven fours and three sixes. Venkatesh started slowly but then picked up a fiery form, hitting some excellent shots. He attacked the bowlers like no one in the KKR innings, especially Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel, and reached his fifty in just 26 balls. Iyer continued to play aggressively in the 19th over of Pat Cummins, whom he hit for explosive 4, 6, 4, 4.

Coming in the tricky phase, he took his time to settle before accelerating with a flurry of boundaries in the death overs. However, his innings came to an end when he was deceived by a slower delivery from Harshal Patel in the 20th over. Mistiming the shot to long-on, the ball went straight into the hands of Aniket. Despite the dismissal, he provided KKR with crucial momentum, taking the score to 200 into the final overs.
