The 10th edition of the PSL, Pakistan Super League will be started from 11th April and will continue to be in action till 18th April 2025. The PSL is a regional league that allows domestic talent to compete with international talents. 

Since its inception in 2016, the league has seen thrilling and competitive matches that have given fans breathtaking moments. But it’s not just happy moments around PSL, the league has also been a centre of controversies from match-fixing scandals to on-field altercations. The league has witnessed it all.

Corruption scandal of PSL Season 2

Pakistan cricket has been part of many match fixing scandals, and has tried to keep the other leagues to be free of corruption. As once highlighted, the Pakistan team members have been marked for the match fixing scandal during a Test match between England and Pakistan .

Following this, another controversy erupted during the second edition of the PSL, Islamabad players Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were allegedly caught in a spot-fixing affair. Both were suspended with immediate effect and sent back home. Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan, and Zulfiqar Babar from the team were questioned after the trio reported false approaches for fixing.

Haris Rauf Slapped Kamran Ghulam in PSL Match

The incident took place during the PSL 2022 season’s match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi. The incident and headlines as soon after it, the video of hitting Kamran, went viral. 

Haris Rauf slapped Kamran as he failed to catch for Hazratullah Zazai on field and later on, in the penultimate delivery of the same over, Fawad Ahmed made it happen. When all the players gathered to appreciate Rauf for the delivery, he just slapped Kamran for dropping the catch. In the viral video, Ghulam didn’t respond and was still seen appreciating showing a sporting spirit to calm Rauf.

Karachi Kings CEO Phone Incident during the Team Dugout

During the PSL 2020 season, another controversy turned into fire on Twitter. As a representative of Karachi Kings was seen using a mobile phone during a match between Karachi Kings versus Peshawar Zalmi match. The incident took on heat as no player of the team is allowed to have a mobile phone and as per ICC rules  mobile phones are banned in the dressing rooms and the dugouts during the game.

Later on, Dean Jones, clarified that it was the CEO who was using a cell phone and was organising practice times, and as per the rules of ICC CEO or manager are allowed to have mobile phones during the game.

Reports of being involved in Betting in 2020

As per some reports, one of the cricket boards partnered with a betting syndicate. Also, it was news that the PCB had arranged an agreement with a bookmaker to make PSL 2020 available for international betting.

While betting is illegal in Pakistan, the PCB clarified that the agreement was made by its partner, not the board itself. Commenting on the erupted controversy, A PCB official also stated that the betting markets were only accessible in countries where betting is legal, such as England, and not in Pakistan.
